2025 ARTIST DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Metro Cabaret Lab Artist Incubator is a cohort-based program designed to support emerging and mid-career performance artists in the DC metro area as they take the next step in their careers. This program provides structured mentorship, professional development, and creative support for performers, choreographers, producers, educators, and designers working in cabaret, burlesque, dance, and immersive entertainment. The next cycle of the program will run from May to September 2025.

Who Can Apply?

We welcome applications from artists in the DC metro area who are actively working on a performance-based artistic project that they will continue to develop throughout the program. Applicants should have experience in live performance, choreography, artistic direction, or production and be eager to refine their craft, expand their industry knowledge, and strengthen their professional network.

Program Structure

  • Monthly Intensives – In-person gatherings focused on progress check-ins, skill-building, and professional development with industry leaders.

  • Mentorship & Networking – Participants will engage with industry experts, including venue directors, artistic programmers, producers, and creative curators, gaining insight into the business of entertainment.

  • Showcase & Culmination – The program will conclude with a live performance or industry presentation, providing fellows with a platform to debut their work.

Participants must be based in the DC metro area or able to cover their own travel and accommodations for monthly in-person sessions and final showcase events.

All accepted fellows will receive:   

  • Performance and teaching opportunities

  • Curated mentorship with an expert in the field

  • Access to discounted studio space (pending availability)

  • Monthly intensives (from May to September ) with members of the cohort, Metro Cabaret Staff and experts in the field.

  • Culminating event presenting a work-in-progress relevant to your project in September 2025
